North Carolina Congressional Special Election, District 3, 2019 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I support pro-choice; I do not believe that the government can tell a woman what to do with her body. The problem with the heart-beat bills is that some women may not even know they are pregnant. I would prefer a solution that helps in birth control rather than abortion but in the end, I support the woman's right to choose.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
I do not currently support the reduction of defense spending. There are bases such as Camp Lejeune who have hurricane damage and others that have subpar living conditions. Our bases also neglect base child care.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Campaign contributions should be handled directly. People should know who is funding a candidate. More candidates should opt to leave money from special interests on the table.
No Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
I would rather support lower taxes on the individual to support economic growth but not all organization invest in ways that promote economic growth. If proven, I want to see the economy grow but I don't want to see the system taken advantage of.
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
The federal education standards should be decided at the state level.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
I believe more people should be educated on the benefits of renewable energy and that tax benefits should be offered for those who elect to install solar, wind, or thermal energies.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
I believe that the concealed carry permit in North Carolina is perfect the way it is. I do not believe that everyone has the right to carry concealed as this should be limited to safe, law-abiding US citizens.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
I'm not sure it even works now with the latest administrative moves. I believe healthcare should be affordable and that families shouldn't have to pick between healthcare and food.
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
I believe there can be a path forward for those already in the country. We have many laws already in place that are not being enforced. I support unlawfully present immigrants who have committed a crime should be escorted out of the country. I believe there is a possible pathway but I would want to see everyone register, have a sustainable living, pay taxes, stay out of trouble, and become a citizen in a fixed amount of time. If something breaks in between, they need to leave.
Yes Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
Marijuana has shown tremendous economical and medical benefits. It also has been proven to fight against the battle of opioids.
Yes Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
No Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
Our country needs to take care of its own. We have homeless and medical issues with our own veterans. I would prefer money to stay at home to address our own issues.
